Toilet leaks and repairs
A fully functioning toilet is something we cannot live without. But over time they require maintenance to work properly, sustainably and hygienically. There are many ways toilets can underperform, misfire, leak and cause blockages.
Luckily Camelot plumbing and gas fitting are well trained in identifying these issues and putting them right. If your toilet is deemed beyond repair, we will help you select a new and more efficient model to your preference of design.
Did you know? The average person spends around 3 years of their lifespan sat on a toilet, visiting the toilet 2500 times per year
Most toilet-related issues occur in the cistern (i.e., the water tank) where all the moving parts can be found.
From tank bolts to the valve and supply pipe, the connections for these parts must be secure so the toilet can flush properly. The valve parts, washers and foam rings should also be clean and maintained regularly in order to operate correctly.
The most common signs of a toilet in need of attention are:
- Leaky Seals - There are multiple seal points on a standard toilet which means there are more chances that a seal from underneath the toilet base will fail. These types of leaks can cause the floor to rot due to trapped moisture.
- Phantom Flush - This fancy phrase is used to describe a water leak coming from the tank of the toilet, called the cistern, causing it to automatically refill with water, causing it to sound like someone has just flushed the toilet. Don't worry, there are no phantoms!
- Weak Flush - When the flush mechanism of your toilet is faulty, restricted or blocked you will experience a slow emptying of the bowl. You may even have to flush twice, wasting water!
Leaking Taps
Leaking taps can be a nuisance likened to water torture, but can also be ignored in some cases. Taps can become harder and harder to turn off, eventually giving way or breaking causing further issues.
Camelot plumbing and gas fitting can identify the problem and work closely with manufacturers and suppliers in order to obtain the correct part to fix or advise on a replacement tap to your preference.
Did you know? A leaking tap can waste up to 20,000 litres of water in one year this is not only a waste of precious water, but it also leads to massive spikes in your water bill and potential damage to the property.
Common issues include -
- Slow, steady drops of water
- Tap needs to be turned tighter to stop water from dripping (or cannot be stopped altogether)
- Inconsistent water flow, possibly due to blockage
- Whining or screeching noise whenever the tap is turned on
- Cracked or damaged handles
